Opening and repositioning panels
In this recipe, you will learn how to open and close panels in InDesign, as well as how to reposition panels, either by docking them in an existing panel group or by creating a new column.
Much of the core functionality of InDesign is accessed through the many different panels, which are interactive resizable windows that contain a wide range of options and functionality. With this in mind, being able to quickly open and reposition panels is a useful skill as it will ensure that you are able to access the features of InDesign that you need more efficiently.
Getting ready
In order to complete this recipe, simply open InDesign on your system; there is no need to create a document at this stage, which is something we will run through in the Creating a new document recipe. If you have the home screen enabled still, look at the Changing the interface preferences recipe for details on how to disable this and access the main interface.
