Conventions Used

There are several text conventions used throughout this book.

Code in text: Indicates code words in text, database table names, folder names, filenames, file extensions, pathnames, dummy URLs, user input, text on screen, and X (formerly Twitter) handles. Here is an example: “The Unable to connect response tells the tester that the connection is closed.”

A block of code is set as follows:

rule TestExample
 {
    strings:
    $test_string = "foobar"
    condition:
    $text_string
}

Bold: Indicates a new term or an important word and abbreviations. Here is an example: “These experts (all of whom hold a CISSP certification) gather every three years to review and revise the exam outline during the job task analysis (JTA) portion of the certification’s life cycle.”
