Chapter 9: Tips for Using Ubuntu like an Expert
In this chapter, we'll amp up our power at the command line by using Ubuntu inside the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2). There are two main areas we'll cover: using WSL2 features to break down the barrier between Windows and Linux, and using the Linux shell to issue commands at warp speed.
The Linux command line sets the standard for high productivity in command-line systems. Often, command-line enhancements and inventions are initially available on Linux, and eventually make their way to Windows. Many of the tips we learned in the previous chapter for PowerShell were cloned from their Linux counterparts; we'll cover these counterparts in this chapter so we have a consistent command-line experience across both operating systems.
