Software update point

The software update point is most likely to be resident in the vast majority of Configuration Manager installations around the world. In short, this role provides us with the facility to deploy software updates for Microsoft operating systems and applications in a way that gives us more control over other updating options, such as manual or Windows Server Update Services. The installation of the role is not generally too difficult but does have some particular prerequisites, depending on the version of Windows Server operating system that is running the server which hosts the role. If the role is being installed for the first time, it is important to reference the Microsoft TechNet library for the specific requirements of the relevant operating system, and therefore the version of WSUS that is being installed as part of the implementation.
