Other scams

There are hundreds of scams and is impossible to know all of them (in fact, scams are always evolving, so you may encounter a new attack every week).

However, let’s review some additional scams that are currently on the rise and that you are very likely to encounter.

The investor scam

In the investor scam, the attacker claims to be from an investing company and offers you to join their investment scheme to double or triple your money. This is a very interesting scam because, in contrast to the Nigerian scam, those scammers sometimes have a real page and even a real office to provide confidence to the victims, they may even agree to meet in person to close the “deal”. However, they will disappear after some time, leaving victims without their investments. Figure 3.15 shows an example of this scam. In this example we added some typos and errors as it is common in many types of scams:
