Data Cloud key terms and definitions
Data Cloud is still a relatively new platform in the Salesforce ecosystem. There are several new terms and concepts that are unique to the platform. Let’s review some of these core terms that are most relevant to a B2C solution architect. They include the following:
- Activation: The publication of Data Cloud data to a target platform.
- Activation target: The authenticated/authorized destination for activated data from Data Cloud.
- Calculated insight: Structured Query Language (SQL)-based calculations in Data Cloud built on stored data objects to provide cross-object insights.
- Contact point: A set of fields (e.g., Address, Email, Phone, Device) that represent channel-level methods to contact an individual.
- Customer Data Platform: The legacy term for the Data Cloud platform. You may see this name (or the shortened CDP term) in various documentation, APIs, and/or Salesforce references.
