Markers and Parametrization

After learning the basics of writing and running tests, we will delve into two important pytest features: marks and parametrization.

Firstly, we will learn about marks, which allow us to selectively run tests based on applied marks, and to attach general data to test functions, which can be used by fixtures and plugins. In the same topic, we will take a look at built-in marks and what they have to offer.

Secondly, we will learn about test parametrization, which allows us to easily apply the same test function to a set of input values. This greatly avoids duplicating test code and makes it easy to add new test cases that may appear as our software evolves.

In summary, here is what we will be covering in this chapter:

  • Mark basics
  • Built-in marks
  • Parametrization
