Use case – the writing (in)competency
In this section, I’m including a real-world use case that highlights the importance of writing in ID by looking at the many edits needed for one of my client’s eLearning courses. You’ll be able to see where the writing competency comes into play in the development of an Articulate Storyline e-learning course.
As the owner of a small eLearning agency, I sometimes need to hire contract instructional designers. I like to offer recent graduates or those who are trying to pivot into instructional design these opportunities to help them secure their first projects for their portfolios, just as others helped me at the beginning of my ID career.
As a former instructor, I tend to give my contractors a lot of direction on these projects, specifically, nuances about the client’s voice and tone preferences.
