Summary
Moodle reporting has recently undergone a significant makeover. The newly introduced logging framework, which we covered in detail, provides a foundation for flexible reporting and learning analytics. Additionally, a new report generator is currently under development, which will replace a lot of the mechanisms described in this chapter. However, the underlying principles of reporting on the course, user, and site-level will remain intact.
In this chapter, you learned how to report user activities using Moodle's internal reporting facilities, report generation alternatives, as well as external web analytics tools. We also dealt with a number of miscellaneous reports that are provided by Moodle.
One concern about the introduction of more flexible and powerful reports and metrics is the preservation of users' privacy and the protection of associated data that's been stored. The next chapter will cover these aspects.
