Configuring metric monitoring in RDS
RDS is the codename that AWS uses to group all the relational database technologies that it supports. In the previous section, we mentioned the database technologies that are powered by the AWS RDS technology. We won't be covering logging and monitoring for all the databases in this book, but we will take one of the databases and see how logging and monitoring works for it. The knowledge and concepts you will learn about here can be applied to other RDS database technologies; the differences might just be slight in regard to the terms that will be used to described certain metrics for the different database technologies.
The first thing we must do before we start monitoring is ensure that we have a database set up.
