Part 1 – Get to Know Video Editing

We are going to start our editing journey by first understanding the point of editing. Without knowing what we’re editing for, the post-production process can seem vague, yet overwhelming.

The tools we’ll use in this part of the book are aimed to introduce editing concepts gradually: we’ll start with the most simple of actions using a program more simple than iMovie. Then, we’ll move on to the entry-level version of iMovie, for iOS and iPadOS. First, we’ll look at tools that do some of the work of editing for you, before using them as inspiration to create our own project.

While editing your own project, you’ll begin to appreciate the importance of taking creative charge of the project, rather than trusting iMovie to create a video for you. You’ll also be gradually introduced to the importance of sound, starting with adding sound to your project, before refining it to smooth out the cuts...
