Understanding Flight Terminologies and the Physics of Motion
In this chapter, we are going to learn the behavior and stability of a drone in midair. What are the forces that must be acting on the system to maintain the drone’s position in the air, and how do we achieve those forces using engineering means? We will also see how the control mechanism of the drone works in the air, with its moment in the free space and major terminologies that are associated with these maneuvers.
Here, we will understand the major forces that act on the body and center of mass across X-, Y- and Z-axes, with major physics acting on the drone. These topics are useful for understanding the basic physics of drones, which is helpful for designers to design an airframe and calculate the load on the hinges of the drone during hover and cruise actions and for avionics development engineers to stay under the load condition provided by the designer.
