Summary

In this chapter, we discussed the control patterns of reactive, cloud-native systems. The Event Collaboration pattern replaces synchronous communication with asynchronous domain events, which successively trigger commands in downstream components, to resiliently choreograph long-running collaborations between boundary components. In the Event Orchestration pattern, we improve on the Event Collaboration pattern by creating mediator components to orchestrate the collaboration between decoupled boundary components. Finally, in the Saga pattern, we provide a long-running transaction mechanism based on compensation to undo the successful steps in these collaborations when later steps encounter business rule violations.
