I had a very limited knowledge of Qt dating back to when it just offered Widgets. I wanted to catch up with its possibilities, understand if one could now work exclusively with Qt Creator and see what Qt Quick was all about.Sadly, there are not many recent printed books out there on Qt and Qt Creator, so I picked this one and I have not been disappointed. The book gives an overview of Qt Creator, explains how to develop a desktop application with Qt Widgets, introduces Qt Quick. The book also introduces useful tools that come with Qt Creator such Qt Linguist and Profiler.After reading the book cover to cover, I think that I have good grasp on how to develop applications with Qt Creator.

De voorbeeldprojectjes zelf zien er leuk uit, echter:helaas is de opzet van QT Creator projecten in de loop van de tijd kennelijk veranderd want de voorbeelden sluiten niet aan op de hedendaagse versies waardoor je elk project aan het uitvogelen bent hoe je alles aan de praat krijgt.

Das Buch hat keine Struktur, alles wird wild durcheinander erwähnt.Die abgedruckten Code-Schnipsel sind fehlerhaft und passen nicht zum erklärenden Text (oder umgekehrt).Wer hofft nach dem lesen dieses Buches eine QT Applikation schreiben zu können wird sehr enttäuscht feststellen, dass das Geld umsonst war. Leider habe ich diese Erfahrung bereits mit mehreren Büchern von PACKT machen müssen.

This book should explain/learn you how to code in Qt 5. Always presuming you know C++.I know C and C++ for about 30 years. I know Visual C, Visual Bacis, ... I even know assembler.33 years ago I was learned that programming is a mindset. The language is just syntax.After 300 pages I still don't have a clue how to get input from a textbook into a variable.After 300 pages I still don't have a clue where to put which code.I'm missing the structure that bores me in so many programming books.I started to think it was me. Maybe Alzheimer, but just experimenting with Qt learns me more then following this book. So it must be the famous generation gap.
