Chapter 9. Resource Management and Performance Monitoring

In previous chapter, we looked at advanced operations that can be performed with virtual machines like deployment across data centers, updating sizes, and migration of virtual machines and templates using vMotion, Storage vMotion, and Enhanced vMotion. We also covered virtual machine snapshots.

This chapter focuses on how to efficiently manage resources on the server. We will learn how to effectively manage available resources and also learn of ways to monitor their performance. We will start by learning about managing the virtual memory on the server, and then proceed to understand resource pools and controls. All resources need to be allocated with strategy, hence we will be learning how to implement shares, limitations, and reservations on resources.
