ICS threat landscape
The ICS cyber threat landscape has become increasingly complex and unpredictable in recent times. As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, more sophisticated attack vectors and methods are continually being developed to target ICSs and networks. Among the notable threats in recent years are ransomware, Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), malicious insiders, supply chain threats, and smart components, all of which can lead to ICS cyber compromise.
Increasingly, these threats are leveraging new attack surfaces provided by advanced technologies, such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). IIoT devices and systems have proven to be very attractive targets for adversaries due to their low-security postures, lack of internal monitoring capabilities, and the difficulty of remote patching. This pushes cybersecurity teams to continually seek new and innovative ways to protect their ICS environments from malicious actors.
