To create a patch for a solution, select the solution you wish to use and click on the Clone a patch button on the toolbar in the Maker portal:

A new empty solution will be created with the same name, as shown in the following screenshot:

A patch is always linked to its parent solution. The parent solution is locked. You cannot edit the parent solution; you can only add components to, and create components in, the patch solution.
Here, you can see that the version number for the patch has been automatically updated.
