Evaluating UC solutions


After having a good overview on available solutions and technologies for real-time communication in the market, it is important to formulate the business requirements into a Request for Proposal (RFP) and address several different manufacturers for UC in the market. Although a RFP procedure should be "neutral", it is still important to limit the list of UC offerings during this process. A good number of "UC" manufacturers and offerings to have is around 10 to 15 depending on the complexity of the business requirements. The next concern is how the RFP is structured and what should be achieved by the RFP.

It is not only important to query the most important functionalities such as presence integration, instant messaging, telephony, teleconferencing, video conferencing, voicemail, fax, e-mail, web conferencing, desktop sharing, Web RTC, or the ability to extend to line of business applications but you must also assess how easy the functionalities would be for the majority...
