Planning for disaster recovery


For most organizations, messaging services are business-critical. If it is not available, productivity lowers and business and revenue opportunities might be lost. Even if e-mail is not business-critical to an organization, it is very likely that the loss of messaging services would still create a considerable disruption.

Tip

As even the most well-designed and maintained environment is not immune to disasters, it is crucial to have a good disaster recovery plan in order to be able to quickly restore messaging services.

Planning for disaster recovery is a complex process that depends on numerous decisions made during the planning of Exchange 2013. To start the planning process, we generally need to:

  • Be aware where we may have to recover from

  • Consider the established service-level agreements

  • Consider the significance of having disaster recovery in mind when deploying Exchange

  • Understand the dependency on AD by Exchange

  • Understand Exchange database technology
