Introducing the new features of UM


UM in Exchange 2013 is very similar to the previous editions of Exchange in terms of its functionality. However, there have been architectural changes, and new features have also been added. Although Exchange 2013 UM includes the same features as Exchange 2010, it is now a component of the voice features of Exchange 2013 and is no longer a separate server role. UM-related services and UM components (such as auto attendants, dial plans, UM mailbox policies, and UM IP gateways) can still be managed through the shell, or by using the new Exchange Admin Center (EAC) and the unified messaging page.

The following is just a list of the new features and improvements introduced in UM in Exchange 2013:

  • Voice architectural changes

  • IPv6 support

  • Improvements to voicemail preview

  • Updates to the UM cmdlets

  • Improvements to caller-ID support

  • Improvements to the speech platform and recognition
