Freeing up space and storing files on demand
The possibility of having files from several devices synchronized on any device is efficient for productivity, but if done in the traditional way, it would be unfeasible because, as we have seen, storage on devices has gotten faster but smaller. To solve this problem, OneDrive has a feature called Files On-Demand, which works on both Windows and Mac.
This feature makes it possible for you to see and have all cloud files listed on your machine but without taking up space on it, occupying zero bytes. Technically speaking, it is as if what we have on our machine are just "shortcuts" to the files that are online.
Tip
A really cool feature is that Files On-Demand prevents some viruses from being able to capture these files since they are not actually on your machine.
Unfortunately, this feature is not enabled by default. To enable it, you must go to the settings on your OneDrive, and on the Settings tab, enable File On-Demand...
