Custom publishing workflow

Joomla 4.0 introduced an interesting feature that makes the CMS fit the needs of complex publishing scenarios such as those of online magazines, news websites, and corporate websites where there are several people involved during the publishing process with different roles, authorities, and permissions. This feature is called Workflow and is meant to add flexibility to the publishing process, allowing administrators to override the standard cycle in favor of a more complex and multi-level publishing flow that might include different stages and approvals. In this section, we will explore this new feature and how to build a custom workflow for our website.

Exploring workflows

By default, the new Workflows feature is disabled in Joomla. So, to use it, it’s necessary to activate it. You can enable Workflow from the Options section of the Articles component by checking this option from the Integration tab.
