Getting to know the AAS
In a nutshell, the AAS is a digital representation of a physical asset. It contains all the information and functionalities of the asset and acts as the segue between the physical asset and the connected digital world. There are provisions to describe and update parameters such as features, characteristics, properties, statuses, measurement data, calibration data, and capabilities.
The structure of the AAS is defined through a technology-agnostic meta-model and several technology-specific serialization mappings such as XML, JSON, and OPC UA. The meta-model can be composed of multiple submodels that update in real time in coordination with the state of the asset itself.
The AAS can also be considered the digital twin implementation for Industry 4.0. This implies a meta-model of every asset constantly updated using the IoT data from the asset. This meta-model can be used as an interface to interact and exchange information with other twins and systems...
