The data storytelling process

Crafting an engaging data story requires mixing the exercise of creativity with the application of a structured methodology. In the following pages, we will uncover each step of the Data Storytelling Process, a recipe you can follow when looking for the right way to influence your business partners through data and analytics. This is how it works:

  1. The first step is to Set the Objectives, which means defining your story's expected outcome (anticipating what it will cause) and getting clarity on your audience composition, drivers, and previous knowledge.
  2. Then you Select the Scenes your story will be made of and you draft them. We will go through five archetypal scene types you can use as an inspiration for your data to speak up.
  3. Once you are clear on the scenes, you sequence them and Apply the Structure that will make your story flow well. We will introduce a basic 3-act structure that proves to be a good base for organizing your narrative...
