Network Architecture Security
Ensuring efficient network communication is a core objective of any network engineer. Yet modern IT networks are complex, and as we have seen, threats and vulnerabilities are numerous, so making this communication, and the networks, secure demands careful analysis and planning. The Open System Interconnection (OSI) and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) models are central to this discussion, as they provide structured frameworks for securing different layers of network communication.
The OSI model, with its seven layers, provides a comprehensive approach to ensure that security measures are applied consistently across all aspects of a network. The TCP/IP model, although more practical with its four layers, similarly aids in the implementation of security protocols.
