Borrowing a clip from another Project


There will be times when you want to use clips that are already in use by another project (for example, music, graphics, and so on). This recipe will take you through that process.

How to do it…

Please review items 1, 2, and 3 in the Introduction section of this chapter.

  1. Open the Media Tool and go to Tools menu | Media Tool.

  2. Configure the Media Tool to display only Master Clips from the Project(s) you want to borrow from. This topic is discussed in more detail in the previous Setting the Media tool display recipe.

  3. Simply drag a Master Clip(s) from the Media Tool window into any open bin. There is no need to hold down any keys on the keyboard. Media Composer will automatically create a Clone of the clip (the difference between a Duplicated clip and a Cloned clip is discussed in the Mixing frame rates in Chapter 1, Getting Assets into Your Media Composer Project, in the There's more... section).

  4. If you need to make a copy of the media so that it will be permanently...
