In this chapter, you learned the basics of monitoring and observability and, in particular, the monitoring principles of SRE. You learned about and explored the monitoring landscape in Google Cloud, with its many tools and features. You learned how to configure services for observability, set up logs and metrics, and visualize them in charts and dashboards. You also got some hands-on experience involving several of the monitoring and logging capabilities on GCP. Finally, you learned how to choose the right observability architecture, the right alerting and incident response strategy, and some best practices for keeping monitoring costs under control.
In the next chapter, we will have an in-depth look at security and compliance in Google Cloud, yet another crucial pillar of great cloud solutions.
