Creating a New Virtual Server

Let’s start by creating a new, empty virtual server to host our SharePoint portal and act as our MCMS Web Entry Point.

  1. 1. Open IIS, right-click the Web Sites folder and select New | Web Site.

  2. 2. Name the new virtual server portal.tropicalgreen.net .

  3. 3. Specify a root folder for the virtual server. In this case, we chose C:\Inetpub\wwwroot_portal.tropicalgreen.net, but you can put the web root anywhere else on your server. Uncheck the Allow anonymous access to this Web site.

  4. 4. On the Web Site Access Permissions dialog, select the Read and Run scripts options, leaving the rest unchecked.

We now have an empty virtual server ready for a new SharePoint portal.
