Slicing Models and Simulating the Toolpath
Welcome to Chapter 11. In this chapter, we will learn all about how to generate and simulate the additive toolpath for Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) 3D printing. We will go over how to acquire key information about our additive setup, such as print statistics and energy consumption. We will also learn how to generate and customize the G-code necessary to start a print job.
Once all the components we wish to print are properly oriented, arranged, and supported, it is time to generate the additive toolpath. After we generate the toolpath, we can visualize the outcome at each layer and simulate the movement of the nozzle during travel and extrusion moves.
Generating the additive toolpath is a one-click solution in Fusion 360, but it is always a good idea to review the toolpath to understand whether the print settings and body presets we have chosen will result in the desired outcome.
