Creating walk-through animations

Have you ever wondered how HGTV (Home & Garden Television) and other home renovation channels create animated walk-throughs and installation videos? One program they use is SketchUp! SketchUp provides a way to explore your 3D designs interactively, by walking through your SketchUp model as if you were actually walking through a space in real life. You can give a seamless tour by using the camera tools and setting up your scenes sequentially.

Before we jump into the ins and outs of creating a walk-through, we will talk about the basics of animating scenes in SketchUp.

Animating scenes

SketchUp animations are scenes displayed in sequence. Context-click any scene tab and select Play Animation. To customize the animation, go to Window | Model Info, and choose Animation in the sidebar. Alternatively, go to View | Animation | Settings. Either way, the Model Info window will appear with editing options.
