UML component diagrams

A Unified Modeling Language (UML) component diagram is a structural diagram that provides a high-level overview of the components, their relationships, and the organization of a system or application. Component diagrams depict the physical or logical components that make up a software system and how these components interact with each other to provide system functionality.

Here are the key elements and conventions of a UML component diagram:

  • Component: Components are modular units representing a physical or logical system part. Components can be software modules, libraries, hardware devices, or more extensive subsystems. Each component is typically represented as a rectangle with the component name inside. Figure 5.1 shows the UML component notation.
