Search-friendly and canonical URLs
As promised, here is the low down on search-friendly URLs, and while we are on the subject of URLs, we will look at canonical ones as well.
Search-friendly
Friendly is much better than unfriendly, but what exactly is a friendly URL? Visit your shop front and click on one of your products. Then look at the address in the address bar of your web browser. It is probably something like this:
http://www.fluffyteddies.com/category.php?id_category=6
How friendly is that? Well, if you look at the beginning, it is not too bad, but after www.fluffyteddies.com it gets a bit grim. Search-friendly URLs enable PrestaShop to get rid of the category.php?idxxxxxxx
and replace it with real category names, product names, and article titles. This has two major benefits. Firstly, your visitors are more likely to remember a URL such as www.fluffyteddies.com/3-teddy
than one like the example above and also the search engines can reward you for having URLs relevant to the keywords...
