Introducing distribution groups
The concept of group is not new to Active Directory administrators. Groups are a collection of user and computer accounts and other nested groups. Groups help us to make maintenance and administration easier.
From an Exchange administration perspective, these are the two groups that administrators have to deal with:
- Distribution groups: These groups can be used with applications that deal with e-mails to send it to a collection of users. To be specific, these are referred as mail-enabled universal distribution groups or simply distribution groups.
- Security groups: These groups are used to grant access permissions to resources in Active directory. These groups can also be mail enabled and used to distribute messages.
