Understanding DFS

• DFS Namespace: A centralized folder namespace is provided to the users through which they can access and store files.
• DFS Replication: Folder contents are efficiently synchronized between servers and across LAN or WAN network connections.

Requirements for running DFS

The additional hardware or software requirements for running DFS Management or using DFS Namespaces are absent.

Additional consideration before deploying DFS:

• Update the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) schema to include Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2003 R2 schema .
