Major custom field limits

There are some object-related limitations that you should be aware of.

Go to Setup | Object Manager, select a Salesforce object, then click on the Object Limits side tab to have a look at a given object's limitations regarding your Salesforce org:

Be aware that the following limits apply on your objects:

  • Total number of custom fields: 500 for Enterprise and Developer Edition and 800 for Unlimited and Performance Edition (for other editions, refer to the link at the end of this section)

  • Custom Relationship Fields: 40

  • Active Lookup Filters: 5

There is also a custom object limit, which is set to 2,000 for Unlimited and Performance editions, 400 for Developer Edition, and 200 for Enterprise Edition (for other editions, refer to the link at the end of this section).
