Expanding the vision for the VSM tool industry

My ultimate vision for VSM is that the traditional VSM initiatives and modern VSM tool-oriented concepts come together. In fact, I think this could be a tremendous boon for the VSM tool industry. Instead of limiting their use to improve DevOps-based software delivery value streams, we could use the same integration, automation, and orchestration capabilities across all organizational value streams.

For example, how hard would it be to extend the VSM tools vision – which currently supports data capture and the normalization of data across software delivery pipeline activities, to also provide the same kind of end-to-end visibility and analysis across all value stream flows? Such a strategy would mean the VSM tool vendors create extensions to help their customers develop applications and integrations to monitor and capture data across other types of development and operational value streams and their activities.
