Software Distributions

Software distribution is an important role for the ConfigMgr server. Starting from ConfigMgr 2012, it has been possible to deploy applications with different settings for different platforms and users. The ConfigMgr server might also check for requirements, and the deployment will take place only if these are met. The server also discovers the operating system the user is working on and is capable of releasing appropriate binary files on that computer.

Software distribution provides the following capabilities:

  • Applications: Deploy applications for operating systems such as Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS
  • App-V virtual environments: Deploy applications App-V and manage the virtual environment
  • Packages: Deploy packages to be compatible with earlier server versions
  • Approval requests: Manage the approval of applications requested by users
