Setting up a database for a microservice project

We are going to implement a microservice to get a list of courses.  We will use the same MySQL database, course_management, that we have been using in this book. Refer to Installing MySQL in Chapter 1, Introducing JEE and Eclipse, if you need information on how to install and set up MySQL. If you haven’t already created thecourse_management schema, then refer to theCreating database schema section in Chapter 4, Creating JEE Database Applications. At this point, we will assume that the MySQL database is running and thecourse_management schema with theCourse, Course_Student, Student, and Teachertables exists.

We will use JPA to access this database. See the Creating a database application using JPA section inChapter 4,Creating JEE Database Applications, if you are not familiar with JPA. We are going to use EclipseLink as the JPA provider.
