To get the most out of this book

This book intended for those who are just starting out with C++, QML, and Qt 5. It would help if you already understand the C++ programming language. However, it is okay if you do not, because through our step-by-step examples, you will be able to master the language in no time. There are many sub-versions of Qt 5; please make sure that the version you're installing to your computer is at least Qt 5.10 or later so that the code is compatible with the book.

Conventions used

There are a number of text conventions used throughout this book.

CodeInText: Indicates code words in text, database table names, folder names, filenames, file extensions, pathnames, dummy URLs, user input, and Twitter handles. Here is an example: "This happens because we specifically tell the selector to apply the style to all the widgets with a class called QPushButton."

A block of code is set as follows:

When we wish to draw your attention to a particular part of a code block, the relevant lines or items are set in bold:

}

Any command-line input or output is written as follows:

$ mkdir css
$ cd css

Bold: Indicates a new term, an important word, or words that you see onscreen. For example, words in menus or dialog boxes appear in the text like this. Here is an example: "Once you are done with that, open up Qt Creator and create a new Qt Widgets Application project."

Warnings or important notes appear like this.
