You were introduced to solutions in Chapter 3, Data Modeling, where we covered using containers to manage the changes we make to components and how we can deploy these changes. Microsoft provides Dynamics 365 apps as solutions. Third-party software vendors (ISVs) provide their products as solutions.
You can work with the following types of solutions:
- Default: Contains all the components in your Common Data Service environment.
- Common Data Service default: An empty solution. This is used if you customize the data model outside of a solution in the Maker portal.
- Custom: A solution you create that holds your customizations.
You can add components to solutions and create components in solutions. So far, the solutions you have created and used are unmanaged solutions. Unmanaged means you can change the components in the solution.
