Azure Rights Management Service (Azure RMS) is an Information Rights Management (IRM) solution that protects Office files across devices, even after they're downloaded from their sources, such as Exchange or SharePoint. The on-premise counterpart is the Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS).
Using the Rights Management connector (see the next section, Planning for the deployment of the on-premises Rights Management connector), you can make sure Exchange and SharePoint servers are benefiting from Azure RMS as well. And because it's a cloud-based service, there's no need to worry about configuring additional servers when considering scalability.
