Understanding the MNIST database
The MNIST dataset consists of 60,000 handwritten digits. It also consists of a test dataset made up of 10,000 digits. While it is a subset of the NIST dataset, all the digits in this dataset are size-normalized and have been centered on a 28 x 28 pixels-sized image. Here every pixel contains a value of 0-255 with its grayscale value.
