Time for action—using the key of the song

We are going to create a bassline and harmony using the rules we just explored in our Beat+Bassline Editor.

  1. Create a new Beat+Bassline editor by clicking on the button that looks similar to the following screenshot:

  2. Add 16 steps to each pattern.
  3. Recreate the pattern shown in the following screenshot:

  4. Open the Piano-Roll editor for bass_acid02.
  5. Starting from F3, figure out the F minor scale using whole and half notes.
  6. Write the notes down.
  7. Create a quarter note bassline that follows the kick. To create a quarter note, simply click-and-drag the tail of the note out to the beginning of the next quarter note. Write it on F4:

  8. Now go back to the Beat+Bassline Editor, and hit the Space bar.
  9. Let's fix the SBass2 instrument on the track directly above this one. Let's open the Piano-Roll Editor, and use these notes from the key of the scale F minor:
  10. Go back to the Beat+Bassline Editor and have a listen. Do all of the notes fit?
