Summary

Mixing is something that gets better and better every time it's done. Like a chef cooking a signature dish, the more you mix, the better you get. It's important to mix all kinds of music if you can, but remain focused on the style that you resonate with most. You've been listening to music that inspires you, so be sure that when you are mixing, the elements that excite you in other music are there in your mix to inspire you as well. Try hard to be very deliberate about the changes you make in the mix. Listen closely to EQ and compression settings so that you are mixing with your ears and not your eyes. Many people can get stuck in a rut where they mix in such a way that they are boosting levels, adjusting EQ, and compressing everything in sight just because they can. Make decisions because they are the right things to do. Play around with settings to experiment, but at the end of the day compare your mixes to mixes of those that you admire. The better your music sounds...
