There are some distinct advantages and functions when it comes to tracking a project, as follows:
- Tracking identifies existing issues within the schedule. These issues can then be resolved by making changes to the schedule, within the constraints of the project. Potential upcoming risks can also be identified so that mitigation can be planned.
- Tracking introduces realism into the schedule so that the future course of the project can be forecasted with greater reliability.
- Customers and other stakeholders require accurate project tracking information to make critical decisions. Scheduled data tracking is important to approve changes for the budget or scope.
- Alternatively, without tracking data, project stakeholders will be potentially blind to the progress of a project.
