Then, we improve this by templating this infrastructure with Packer.

We will have the following chapters in this section:

  • Leverage the ultimate open source DevOps tools to achieve continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)
  • Ensure faster time-to-market by reducing overall lead time and deployment downtime

Description

The implementation of DevOps processes requires the efficient use of various tools, and the choice of these tools is crucial for the sustainability of projects and collaboration between development (Dev) and operations (Ops). This book presents the different patterns and tools that you can use to provision and configure an infrastructure in the cloud. You'll begin by understanding DevOps culture, the application of DevOps in cloud infrastructure, provisioning with Terraform, configuration with Ansible, and image building with Packer. You'll then be taken through source code versioning with Git and the construction of a DevOps CI/CD pipeline using Jenkins, GitLab CI, and Azure Pipelines. This DevOps handbook will also guide you in containerizing and deploying your applications with Docker and Kubernetes. You'll learn how to reduce deployment downtime with blue-green deployment and the feature flags technique, and study DevOps practices for open source projects. Finally, you'll grasp some best practices for reducing the overall application lead time to ensure faster time to market. By the end of this book, you'll have built a solid foundation in DevOps, and developed the skills necessary to enhance a traditional software delivery process using modern software delivery tools and techniques

El libro permite entender y separar las distintas herramientas que intervienen en DevOps. Ademas de la explicación a un nivel muy bueno, viene con los links para ver el código fuente en los repositorios de Git. Recomendable!

I would suggest reading through each section before you work along with the steps. There’s lots of references to other resources that are not necessarily part of the topics being discussed

The opening chapters start off well. They get into some higher level theory and philosophy behind DevOps. The later chapters are basically a culmination of how-to's that can be found on any of the products' web pages. There's no tips and tricks, no best practices, no "words of wisdom", no talk of common pitfalls, or anything about the how and whys of each product being used as it relates to DevOps. This books seems rushed. In my opinion, this book should be about $7.99.

Can I download the code files for Early Access titles? Chevron down icon Chevron up icon

We try to ensure that all books in Early Access have code available to use, download, and fork on GitHub. This helps us be more agile in the development of the book, and helps keep the often changing code base of new versions and new technologies as up to date as possible. Unfortunately, however, there will be rare cases when it is not possible for us to have downloadable code samples available until publication.

When we publish the book, the code files will also be available to download from the Packt website.

How accurate is the publication date? Chevron down icon Chevron up icon

The publication date is as accurate as we can be at any point in the project. Unfortunately, delays can happen. Often those delays are out of our control, such as changes to the technology code base or delays in the tech release. We do our best to give you an accurate estimate of the publication date at any given time, and as more chapters are delivered, the more accurate the delivery date will become.

How will I know when new chapters are ready? Chevron down icon Chevron up icon

We'll let you know every time there has been an update to a course that you've bought in Early Access. You'll get an email to let you know there has been a new chapter, or a change to a previous chapter. Early Access helps to unlock the potential of our content early, to help you start your learning when you need it most. You not only get access to every chapter as it's delivered, edited, and updated, but you'll also get the finalized, DRM-free product to download in any format you want when it's published.
