Reviewing iris recognition applications

The iris provides an optimal biometric for many reasons. As technology improves, the use of iris recognition is becoming more available and popular. One of the uses of iris recognition is to ensure our safety, as discussed next.

Ensuring public safety

Iris scanners have come down in price; as a result, iris recognition is being used to provide access control for organizations. The technology is also being used to manage our borders to securely identify or verify individuals.

Iris recognition may be appropriate in highly secure areas, such as a military base. Using this method to verify friendlies is ideal when individuals do not have ID cards.

Some countries are enhancing their national citizen ID programs to include the use of biometrics, such as fingerprint, facial, and iris recognition.
