In some cases, all the requirements to create S2S connections to Azure are not met, but we still need to connect to local resources. For example, we need to connect to a local database, but the VPN device we have locally doesn't support a connection to Azure.
In this case, we can use an on-premises data gateway to allow Azure services to use a local database in a secure way.
An on-premises data gateway acts as a bridge and allows us to access local data with Azure services. Services currently supported are Power BI, Microsoft Flow, PowerApps, Azure Analysis Services, and Azure Logic Apps. Logic apps can be used to pass this data to other services as well.
