Starting the ArcGIS API for Python

Now that you are a little more familiar with Jupyter and using the Notebook environment, we can begin to explore how to use the ArcGIS API for Python. The API is designed to follow the standard practices within the Python community and is implemented as a modular API. What does this mean exactly? Every aspect of the API is accessed by calling a module in the Python API. This is similar to the ArcPy standard. For example, calling arcpy.mapping accesses a method within a module, which is referred to as modular.

In the language used to describe the API, the generic phrase "your GIS" is referred to as working with any part of the ESRI web platform, that is, ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise, not to be confused with gis or GIS.
