Experiencing Microsoft Azure
Microsoft Azure offers cloud services from many different categories. You can create virtual machines (VMs), which belong to the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) category, where you are in control of the machines but also need to manage them as you do in on-premises environments, up to ready-to-use software such as Office 365 from the Software as a Service (SaaS) category. Something in between is Platform as a Service (PaaS), where you don’t have full control over the VMs but instead get many functionalities out of the box.
The focus here is on PaaS services. With the PaaS category, there’s also a category named serverless. This category allows for easy scaling, starting from zero, where no or low costs are associated, up to a maximum amount of automatic scaling based on the needs. Many Azure services have offerings in this category.
